Write a composition of at least 500 words, using the illustrative pattern. You may use example, definition, comparison or contrast, details, or any combination of these in your paper. You may use either the pendulum or the extended (block) method.

You may use one of these suggested topics or one of your own:

How dogs communicate with humans
How knowing English can help people
How advertisements affect people
How crime can be eliminated
If your topic requires research support, remember to document your source(s) properly, using MLA format.

Your essay will be graded based on the following:

your attention to the instructions given above
correct demonstration of an illustrative composition
word count as stated in the instructions
use of proper punctuation, spelling, grammar, and sentence construction (commonly called "conventions"), and appropriate length
