Which research question is most useful to find more information about the manufacturing process of sounding rockets?
OA. What types of materials are sourced by engineers to create sounding rockets?
OB. Do sounding rockets have advantages for use in addition to low cost?
OC. How many instruments can fit inside sounding rockets?
OD. What do sounding rockets look like?
Without special instrumentation, the Sun looks calm and inactive. But far beyond
what we can see the sun's surface is active with countless miniature explosions
called nanoflares
These small but intense eruptions are born when magnetic field lines in the
Sun's atmosphere tangle up and stretch until they break like a rubber band
According to some scientists, nanoflares heat the solar atmosphere to its intense
million-degree Fahrenheit temperature
All of this happens in colors of light so extreme that the human eye can't see
them Nanoflares aren't visible to the naked eye
Finding traces of nanoflares requires x-ray vision, and scientists have been
working hard to develop the best tools for the job. The latest advancement in this
project is represented by NASA's Focusing Optics X-ray Solar Imager or FOXSI
mission
FOXSI is a sounding rocket mission. Derived from the nautical term "to sound,"
meaning to measure" sounding rockets make brief 15-minute journeys above
Earth's atmosphere for a peek at space before falling back to the ground. Smaller,
cheaper, and faster to develop than large-scale satellite missions, sounding rockets
offer a way for scientists to test their latest ideas and instruments and achieve rapid
results
