When I woke up the day of our trip, I was excited and anxious! Today was going to be a busy one. "I have to wear comfortable shoes," ! thought. The College of Charleston was a big campus and we were scheduled for the 4:00 campus walking tour. When I called Alexis to
see if she was ready, I had to laugh at her squeals of delight. My parents and I drove over to pick her up (after a quick stop for a biscuit).
She had a travel bag full of things to keep us occupied for the long drive. She hopped into the car, finally, we were on our way! The road
trip was fun, but by the time we arrived, we were feeling a bit cranky. Before long, the 75 minute tour began and we were joined by other
eager high school seniors listening to the descriptions of residence halls and student life. The guides pointed out Towell Library and
Randolph Hall I liked the story about the cannon ball that almost interrupted class. Of course admissions counselors were waiting for us
at the end of our tour to answer any questions. Before leaving campus, I picked up a brochure about the Grice Marine Lab, which is on St.
John's Island. I went on a 5th grade field trip there. My mother exclaimed that we couldn't leave Charleston without buying some pralines.
She found them in no time. It was a great day. We were exhausted but our heads were filled with possibilities. Next week, we are off to
Emory University!

The greatest gift the sumerians gave the world was the invention of writing. the sumerians were wealthy people. they needed some way to keep track of what they owned. they began drawing pictures. they used a reed as a pen. they drew on soft pieces of clay. the soft clay was then dried in the sun. the tablet became a permanent record. later, the sumerian drawings changed into wedge-shaped symbols. this kind of writing is called cuneiform. by putting symbols together, the sumerians could write entire sentences.
