For this assignment, you are going to write a formal essay. Pick a physical activity or sport that you like and do some research on it. Think about this - you are getting a pick-up game together at a local park and have others wanting to play. There are a few individuals that do not speak English but want to play. You also have a few other people that have never played the sport before so need to understand how to play. You are going to write a detailed essay of at least 3-5 paragraphs (Each paragraph must contain at least 5 sentences) explaining how to handle this situation. In the essay, you need to include the information below. If you have chosen an activity where research isn't possible and the information below isn't able to be answered, you will need to pick another topic. Include the following:

Origin of the sport
Changes of sport over time
Analyze the role of the game/sport in other cultures
Interesting facts
How to communicate with those that do not speak the same language - WITHOUT a translator or technology.
How you would explain the game to those that have never played it?
Develop strategies for persons of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
Remember- All writings are considered formal and should meet the standards for high school writing. You should be writing in complete sentences, using proper grammar and mechanics and should have your ideas organized into structural paragraphs. Also, please look at the rubric to see how your essay will be scored. Keep in mind that 20 point sections call for details, depth, and elaboration of thought and ideas.
