The human mind only notices and sees what’s different. If you were standing in front of a classroom and all the students were wearing red shirts, except one who was wearing a white shirt, the only person you'd see is the person in the white shirt. Most of us try to be like everyone else because of a strong desire to be comfortable in life. What we should realize is that it takes a conscious effort to be unique and to embrace your differences so you can gain inner peace and be comfortable with yourself. We must find our niche within our family, school, and social circles, but then differentiate ourselves in a positive way from everyone else. That might mean working harder and smarter, going above and beyond in our responsibilities, or treating others better than they treat us. Let's focus on each of the three areas where we'd like to differentiate ourselves: within our family, at school, and with our friends. Research and identify 2 things you can do differently that will bring a positive influence into EACH of these groups. You should be identifying 6 things total. 1. List the groups and the 2 new behaviors 2. What do you think will be the reaction of the group? Will the reaction be positive or negative? 3. If positive, do you think others will begin to adopt the new behavior? If negative, how can you fight through the negativity and still be able to follow through with your goal? Set a personal goal that you're going to be thoughtful and consistent about these new behaviors for 1 full month. Hopefully, at the end of the month you'll be so used to your new behavior that it'll be like second nature to you.

Before ending this lesson, take a moment to review an informative research essay you have written. you’ve probably already written a conclusion to the essay. but is it the best conclusion it can be? does it properly summarize the main subtopics of your essay? does it state in one or two sentences the “so what” of your topic. if your topic was abraham lincoln, your essay shouldn’t be just about abraham lincoln. it should answer, “so what about abraham lincoln? ” take five or ten minutes, and looking only at that single paragraph, revise your conclusion

Match the bolded words in the excerpts to their contextual meanings. unoriginal well-groomed numerous he was a gentleman from sole to crown, clean favored and imperially slim. (from "richard cory" by edwin arlington robinson) this debt we pay to human guile; with torn and bleeding hearts we smile, and mouth with myriad subtleties. (from "we wear the mask" by paul lawrence dunbar) . .if it must, these things are important not because a high-sounding interpretation can be put upon them but because they are useful. when they become so derivative as to become unintelligible, the same thing may be said for all of us, that we do not admire what we cannot understand. .
