Imagine that the story continues after the last chapter. The novel does not say exactly how the story ends. Do M. Bouc and Dr. Constantine tell the police the real, true story of Ratchett's murder, or do they tell the police Poirot's first solution? Pretend that you are a reporter who has been assigned to write a news article about Ratchett's murder. You can choose to write about the first solution, in which an unknown man boarded the train, disguised himself as a conductor, stabbed Ratchett twelve times, and escaped without being noticed. Or, you can tell the true story, in which twelve people, all connected in some way to the Daisy Armstrong case, conspired together to murder a man who had escaped the justice due to him.
Guidelines for this activity:

1. Include a catchy headline and subtitle for the news article.
2. Be sure to answer the five W's of the murder in the beginning of the article: Who? What? When? Where? Why?
3. Draw at least one picture to go along with the news article. Some ideas for a drawing include the following: a picture of Ratchett, the Orient Express, some of the passengers on the train, or Hercule Poirot as the famous detective who solved the case. Label the picture.
4. The body of the news article should be one page in length.
5. Maintain the facts presented in the story. Choose one solution to write about and make sure that you stay true to the solution as it is presented in the novel.
6. Interview characters from the novel. Portray the characters as they are portrayed in the novel. For example, Mrs. Hubbard is portrayed as a talkative old woman who speaks in a very dramatic voice.
7. Include the background to the murder and Ratchett's true identity. Mention the details of the Daisy Armstrong case.
