Sample Response: When I read silently, I read quickly and got the big picture of what was happening in the passage. When I read aloud the first time, I read slower, trying to pronounce the words correctly and chunking words together for meaning. When I read aloud, I was able to pay more attention to clues for tone. I read with better pacing and more expression, which helped me understand what the characters were feeling.
