- His fight with the dragon is similar to his two previous battles in the sense that the 2 previous battles were with magical creatures; they were both all evil and murderous creatures as the dragon was; and in both cases they made Beowulf to be surprised.

- His fight with the dragon is different from the two previous battles because unlike the previous two, in this one, Beowulf wasn't as confident as he did previously and due to the fact he struggled to kill the dragon, he sought assistance from Wiglaf to kill the dragon. Another difference is unlike previous battles where he wanted to save just the people, in this one he wanted both to save them, sought fame and the treasures of the dragon.
