How can perspective affect a story?

Depending on the perspective the story can vary differently.

Explanation:If the story is told in first perspective then you'r reading the story from the narrator's point of view. If you're reading from third-person omniscent then the narrator is not the one in the story but instead knows everyone's thoughts and actions.
