Sandra Coseros's poem "Clouds" tries to give the message that we do not realize how nice are things in our world without examining them and taking the time to appreciate them. She tries to show how beautiful things are by using extended metaphors throughout the poem.

When she compares the cloud with different things, which seem unrelated, but she manages to show the connection between them since they are present in our world and we do not consider them, or what some elements of an object were before becoming the actual object. We can see how she uses extended metaphors in the poem. A clear example is "you became a cloud, you were an ocean, roiled and murmuring like a mouth. You were the shadows of a cloud crossing over a field of tulips. You were the tears of a man who cried into a plaid handkerchief. You were the sky without a hat. Your heart puffed and flowered like sheets drying on a line."  In this section of the poem, there is clear evidence of how she uses a single metaphor, which is a cloud and links it with other objects to try to deliver her message clearly.

In this case, the metaphor was the cloud, and the metaphor extended it by compearing with different things such as an ocean, tears, a shadow, amongst others.
