Brenda is telling a classmate that we really don’t need to worry about droughts because the supply of water on Earth is constant. Explain to Brenda and her classmate why droughts are a real concern. A. The Earth’s water supply is not constant. When a drought occurs, the water from one area is gone forever. It is difficult for the water to be replenished in an area after a drought occurs.
B. The Earth’s water supply is fixed, so once it leaves an area, it tends to not go back to that area. It is possible for an area with a drought to never have water return.
C. The Earth’s water supply is fixed, but water changes locations and states constantly, so the amount of water in any given reservoir is not fixed. It is possible for a reservoir of useable water to run so low in volume that it can’t supply the area around it with the amount that is needed.
D. The Earth’s water supply is fixed, so once it leaves an area, it tends to not go back to that area. The areas that experience droughts are only areas where people do not live. It is only a concern for the plants and animals.
