1: Many schools start before 8:30 a. m.,
causing students to be tired throughout
the school day. Tired students are not
able to learn as well as they could if
they were able to sleep later in the morning.
By getting more sleep, students will be
better able to complete their schoolwork.
So, school should start after 9 a. m.

2: Waking up early in the morning
for school is hard for many students.
When the alarm clock rings, they
want to curl up to go back to sleep.
Instead, they drag themselves out
of bed to face teachers who are
also tired. If schools started after
9 a. m., students and teachers would
be happier and more successful during
the school day.

3: Schools that start after 9 a. m.
have later dismissal times than
schools that start earlier. Students
that get out of school later in the
afternoon can’t participate in
after-school activities, like sports,
dance, and music lessons. Without
after-school activities students can’t
explore interests outside of what they
study in school. They also miss the
chance to learn skills like teamwork
and discipline. Since it’s important to
develop well-rounded students, school
should start before 9 a. m. so students
can be dismissed earlier in the afternoon.
