What do you understand by the terms "renaissance"

So, Renaissance is similar to saying the word reawakening, revival or rebirth & people used to call certain periods of time are known as the "Renaissance period", in this period people (mainly from Europe) used to have a keen interest in the history or the past of their countries culture- arts, literature & even social & political change.
