Read the passage below from the section "Many Parts Of Life Remain Traditional."
"Today, the Acoma continue to resist threats to tribal life. Like many Native Americans, they have had to deal with the U. S. government, poverty, alcoholism and unemployment, among other things. For decades, Acoma children were forcibly sent to boarding schools where they were punished for speaking their native language. Nowadays, the traditional language is taught to all Acoma children at the local schools."
Why did the author include this passage?
1. To introduce the idea that modern-day Acomas must persist against new forms of ongoing oppression
2. To elaborate on how the Acoma's education system has been challenged and changed over time
3. To give an example of how Acoma have been able to preserve their traditional language
4. To illustrate how Acoma life has been permanently changed by colonizers from different countries
