Read the excerpt from "To Save a Turtle."
"It's a mother," she whispered. They all crouched down
in the sand and watched. The mother turtle was digging
a nest. Five or ten minutes later, the nest was ready, and
she began laying her eggs. There were about a hundred
of them, and each one was the size of a table tennis ball.
When she finished laying her eggs, she used her flippers
to bury them in the sand. Then, she rocked her body on
the sand to pack it down. When she was finished, she
slowly walked across the beach to the water. The
volunteers watched as the sea turtle slipped into the
water and swam away.
