In 1794, the whiskey rebellion began to rise in western Pennslyvania. Distillers and ranchers were unsettled by the idea of a Whiskey charge that had recentley been instituted. The uprising became so intense that the President, (George Washington), had to send troops to quell the rebellion. The whisky rebellion is known as the one of the first uprisings to threaten the new government.
