Cooking
Beginning chets usually rely on recipes to create delicious dishes, but
once you are familiar with some basic cooking dos and don'ts it's fun
and rewarding to stray from the instructions. Except for baking, which
requires specific quantities, you can add ingredients to get creative,
experiment, and suit your individual taste. You should know how long
to cook pasta, but there's no rule that says you have to serve it with
sauce and meatballs. If you enjoyed a cold pasta salad with cheese,
raw vegetables, and dressing, try making another one with different
types of cheese, vegetables, and dressing
Birthday
Just try not to laugh as I tell you about the time I made my sister a
birthday cake! I'm not the greatest baker, but I was following a recipe. I
med everything together just right and poured the butter into the pan.
Then I placed in the oven and set the temperature to 400 degrees,
just like the directions said. Exactly 18 minutes later, I pulled out the
beautiful cake and frosted it. Everything was perfect until my sister cut
into the cake. As she removed the first slice, uncooked batter oored
out from the middle of the cake. Guests looked at me with a mixture of
shock and amusement. That's when I learned an important lesson
about preheating the oven. We had fun retelling the story over ice
cream sundaes at the shop down the street.
