Her new home? They were in a large clearing, surrounded by grape
fields. Row upon row of white wooden cabins formed
long lines, connected like bunkhouses. Each cabin
had one small window and two wooden steps that led
to the door
O Esperanza is disappointed with the work cabins. In
her mind, they are not as nice as the servants
cabins in Mexico. They remind her of horse stables.
She hears people speaking in English and wonders
if she will ever fit in here.
O Esperanza is pleased with the work cabins. They
are not as spacious as her old home, but she sees
many people playing and working outside. She
hopes to make new friends.
Esperanza is homesick for her old home. She sees
the new cabins and cries to her mother. She hopes
that she will soon be able to return to Mexico to her
