INTERNAL CONFLICT AND
EXTERNAL CONFLICT:

Internal Conflict is in the mind and heart. It's when you are conflicted about something
within yourself. Internal conflict does not have anything to do with anybody else except
yourself

External Conflict is a conflict that takes places with somebody or something OUTSIDE of
yourself. For example, a conflict with a classmate; a
conflict with a neighbor.

In literature, keep in mind, external conflict can take place between a character and another
character, a character vs. nature, or a character vs. society. That is external
conflict.

In Julius Caesar, pay close attention to the conflicts that take place within the characters
(Brutus, Cassius, Murullus, Flavius, Caesar, Casca, etc.). Pay attention to how people use
other people, jealousy, envy, and strife. This is what contributes to or represents conflict
throughout the story

Question 1

What are two conflicts that we can see already in the play? Who is involved? Are
they internal or external? Explain these conflicts in as much detail as possible.
