Using vivid words, such as verbs, can help the reader really picture the image and feel like they're there with the characters. For example, instead of simply stating, "She ran from the big dog," try, "She sprinted down the path, the large dog gaining on her, it's eyes savage." The second example provides both a vivid description of the dog and a better image of what's happening, while the first example just gives us a rough idea of what's going on. (Hope this helps! ^^)
