Cinquains A cinquain is a five line poem that follows the guidelines below. Read the poem about apples, then look at the guidelines. Next, you will write your own cinquain.
Apples,
Rosy, juicy,
Sweet, delicious, crisp,
Better still in pies,
Apples.
Guidelines for a Cinquain
The first line is a single word that tells the reader the subject of the poem (Apples).
The second line is two adjectives that describe the subject (Rosy, juicy).
The third line is three words. They can be adjectives (Sweet, delicious, crisp) or they can be action words (specifically words that end in -ing).
The fourth line is a four word phrase that describes the subject (Better still in pies).
The fifth line is a single word. It can be the same word that began the poem (Apples), or a synonym for that word.
Using the guidelines above, write your own cinquain. You may choose your own subject, but here are a few suggestions to get you started:
