In this activity, you will think about the development of a main character in a novel or a story you have read that has been made into a film or television show. You will then compare and contrast how the book represents that character with how the television show or movie presents the character. You will also decide which version of the character you prefer.
Recall the central question of this unit: How does a person change over time? One way to think about this question is to look at literary characters and see how they change. In analyzing literature, we talk about character development, which refers to the changes and growth a character undergoes over the course of a story.
If you have notes from the writing assignments you completed for the lessons in this unit, you may use them for this activity. For example, you may have notes on the character of Alice from Alice in Wonderland.
