According to the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press, "The average American
spends 70 minutes a day taking in the news." Given that the news media (broadcast and cable
news, newspapers and news magazines, radio, online news sources and social media) are so
pervasive, consider how various sociological perspectives might approach an analysis of the
role of the news media in society.
Choose any 4 of the following sociological perspectives

6) Critical race perspective
and explain how each might approach an analysis of the news media. Consider each
perspective's view of society, the types of questions that might be asked, and the level of
