Already at the station, he ran into a man who was willing to help him - a hack driver Bill who said that he knows all the places where Lutkins usually hangs. They drove all day around, Bill talked to a lot of people, they even visited Lutkins` mother, but there was no sign of him. The clerk, of course, paid Bill for driving him around and helping him, he was even very glad that he met a man like Bill. The next day, he had to come back to that little town, because he didn`t succeed in finding Lutkins the previous time, though, this time he came with a colleague who knew Lutkins from before. At the very station, his oblivion vanished as he found out that he spent the whole day with Lutkins, as Bill is Lutkins himself. So, Bill was not trying to help him to find Lutkins, though he helped him to have a good time.
