While there are many different authors from the American and colonial period, two stick out to me more than the rest. Both Robert Beverly and Anne Bradstreet are great examples for this prompt. Both had a certain purpose for their writings, an audience they were trying to reach, and a certain style to their writings as well. Robert Beverly was a wealthy planter and an author who wrote “The History and Present State of Virginia.” In his work of writing, he recorded and wrote about the history of the Virginia colony in a compassionate and energetic way.
