Option A:
Choice 1: Short Story:
Write a short story that reflects your own experience. Consider the stories and poems you have read and the topics on which these authors wrote.
What can you offer an audience to ponder through your individual experience?
What does a character’s actions or beliefs say about an issue or concern that you see in society today?
Consider the audience; remember this is a formal writing and not a text message. Be sure to convey a tone in your writing.
Remember, tone is how the audience thinks the speaker is feeling throughout the piece. This tone must be present in the writing by using the right diction, or word choice, to convey it.
Use elements of craft such as imagery, characterization, symbolism, metaphor, voice, and figurative language.
Choice 2:
Write from the perspective of another person or inanimate object.
Consider how the object/animal/other person would speak, what they would hear, what they would see, and what they would do.
Consider the audience; remember this is a formal writing and not a text message. Be sure to convey a tone in your writing.
Remember, tone is how the audience thinks the speaker is feeling throughout the piece. Is the speaker frustrated, happy, worried, excited, etc.? This tone must be present in the writing by using the right diction, or word choice, to convey it.
Use elements of craft such as imagery, characterization, symbolism, metaphor, voice, and figurative language.
