The Inciting Incident in the short story is when the main character, Chris, loses both of his legs in a car accident and it changes his dad forever for the worse. It makes his dad mumble and grunt as it says in the eighth paragraph when it says "... Dad just looked at me and mumbled something under his breath."

Right after the character loses his legs the pastor at his church invites him to play on a wheelchair basketball team. Then, shortly after that whenever he ask his dad about basketball he just mumbles and grunts under his breath leading him to think something is wrong. Finally, one day when he gets home from school he finds out that his dad called the coach and thinks that something bad is going to happen. Then, he finds out that he actually wanted to go to his practice when he doesn't even watch his games.

Climax
The climax of the story is when his dad goes to his practice and his dad shocks their team so much that Kwame, one of Chris friends says, "Your dads a giant." This is because they didn't know how tall he was. Then, he shocks them again by showing them how insane he is. After that, he coaches them up and demonstrates things that help everyone on the team and give Chris a sense of pride.

Falling Action
The Falling Action in the short story is when Chris's team continues to practice for there big upcoming game and are getting better. Another big part of the falling action is when they play Madison an undefeated team. The game does excellent and the team plays out of there head and is filled with joy because of how they played in their game even though they lose their game.

The story ends with a joy filled tone and the main character thinking that his team is going to have an exciting season and that he will be able to bond with his dad over their passion of basketball. It even says in the 4th to last paragraph of the story, "... Even though we had lost we knew we would be ready for the next season.

The theme in the story is that life can change people forever in a moment. When he loses his legs in the accident his life changes in a flash of bright lights, a glimpse of a broken window, and the crash of the car ramming into the light pole. This causes a very evident change in his dad like in the third paragraph when it says "He was never much of a talker... but he talked even less since I was hurt."
