Approximately, how many seals are born each year?
Every year, from late October to the end of December, the Donna Nook Nature Reserve in Lincolnshire plays host to around 50,000 visitors. These guests, including many wildlife photographers, flock to see the amazing spectacle of some 3,000 grey seals and 1,000 newborn pups. The seals have been coming to the area since the 1970s, and the site is now home to one of the UK’s biggest seal breeding colonies.
The seals, which spend the rest of the year at sea or on remote sand banks, come to the coast line to give birth, and if you're there at the right time you’re almost guaranteed a close encounter with these beautiful mammals. However, these creatures need treating with respect, so stay within the viewing areas and don’t try to feed or touch them.
The site has a daytime car park and is close to amenities in nearby villages. If you can, try and visit in the week, as the weekends get very busy.
