Power plays a crucial role in the overall development of Lizabeth from innocence to compassion. She was a child born and brought up during the time of the 'Great Depression' and the psychological influence on her behavior could be seen very explicitly. She used to exercise her anger and frustration on the innocent 'marigolds' os Miss Lottie by throwing stones and yelling rudely at her mentally reta-rded son. This reflects her display of power on the poor beings but when she witnessed the argument between her parents for money, she gets emotional and again exercises her power to handle her rage and frustration.
