Ikemefuna, though, unknowingly to him, considered Okonkwo as his father, it was Okonkwo, despite loving Ikemefuna as his son, that eventually kill him, during the process of executing Ikemefuna to the gods. This is an act Okonkwo considered necessary, so as not to appear weak to the village eyes.
