Marco’s Eventful Night Awakened by Buddy’s thunderous barking, I looked out my window and was surprised to see my gigantic dog barking at the back door. Buddy preferred being outdoors and never barked to come inside, so I became alarmed. He was barking at something inside the house! My heart sank, and I slowly crept down the stairs to let Buddy inside. I paused when I heard soft movement coming from the kitchen. My heart sank even further as I realized I had to go through the kitchen to let Buddy in. As I crouched on the floor to peek around the corner, I caught a glimpse of the striped tail of a raccoon digging in a box of crackers. Startled by my loud sigh, he quickly jumped on the counter and out the open window. I leaped across the kitchen to close it and watched as the intruder scampered from the yard. Based on evidence in the text, why did Marco most likely sigh loudly when he saw the raccoon?

A)The sight of the raccoon made him laugh hard and loud.
B)Marco was relieved the intruder was a harmless raccoon.
C)Marco was trying to startle the raccoon so it would leave.
D)He wanted the raccoon to come to him so he could pet it.
