You are now Chaucer, and you are writing a general prologue to a modern-day Canterbury Tales. You must choose a minimum of six (6) characters (but no more than ten) from modern-day society (do not name specific people; simply describe them. EX: The Slacker, etc.) Your job is to create a general prologue in which all these characters meet at a specific location of your choice (McDonald’s, gas station, Giant, a party, etc.). Your paper is to include an introductory paragraph that establishes a setting and introduces the narrator (who is not one of the six; the narrator does not have to be an active participant in the action). Your paper will also include paragraphs that introduce your characters. These paragraphs must include at least five (5) personality characteristics and five (5) physical characteristics. Consider how Chaucer addresses positive vs. negative qualities in his prologue. Try to emulate his approach to positive and negative qualities in your paper. Your paper is to also include a concluding paragraph that draws the situation to a close and gives plausible reason for the action to cease. Your paper will be evaluated on: Choice of characters Physical descriptions Personality descriptions Tone for negative qualities Tone for positive qualities Mechanics Organization Style Evidence of revision

When lawrence saw the posters for the circus hanging on the bulletin board, as he swept up the trimmings at slim's barbershop, he knew he would be taking his little cousins. they loved animals, and he was looking forward to seeing the smiles on their faces as the circus performers amazed them with their stunts. but sweeping up hair clippings didn't pay a whole lot. lawrence spent 45 dollars just getting tickets. but it was worth it to see his cousins' faces. the day finally came and everyone was excited as they walked into that big circus tent. but lawrence soon realized that he and his cousins would be thirsty and hungry. as they sat in their seats, the drink vendor walked by selling beverages. desperately thirsty, lawrence asked him how much a lemonade would cost, and the drink vendor said, "eleven dollars each." lawrence replied, "oh, that's it? just eleven dollars? what a great deal for one cup of lemonade. that's totally worth it." the drink vendor walked away. which type of irony is used?
