The poems are alike as both have strong tones but "Do not go gentle into that good night" was more firm and aggressive, commanding people to be strong. The poem doesn't tell you to fight death, but to be strong and not give up even against the biggest of things, like the sun going to dusk.

The form affects the poems as they set the pace and bring together the overall poem into a more understandable fashion.

she was born in baltimore, maryland, on september 24, 1825. after the death of her parents, her uncle reverend william watkins, a teacher at the academy for negro youth, raised and educated her. she also continued educating herself by accessing a library of the family she worked for, beginning writing poetry afterwards. as a civil rights activist and abolitionist, watkins greatly influenced her life and work.
