When my group first chose the American justice system as the topic of our presentation, all of us had a
serious attitude. As we began brainstorming, however, it became increasingly clear that television courtroom
dramas were acting as fodder for just about every situation that we proposed. Kelly suggested that we act out a
trial focused on a lucrative lawsuit with millions of dollars at stake. Noah was inspired to describe an entire set
of untrustworthy and dissolute witnesses whose greedy motives could be exposed during an intense
cross-examination. By the time the jury, made up of a group of our classmates, adjourned to reach a decision,
they would certainly have seen plenty of colorful characters and heard many questionable statements.
