Read the passage carefully and fill in each blank with an appropriate answer.

With all the pollutants that we are (01) to daily, we are in danger of (02) a

lot of free radicals that can damage our cells. The damage caused by free radicals can be (03)

and may lead to cancer. In order to stop these free radicals from (04) our body, we need the

presence of antioxidants like beta-carotene, lycopene, selenium, carotenoids and vitamins C, E and A in our bodies. As

these substances can deactivate free radicals before they cause damages to our bodies, having a diet rich in antioxidants

in us, we should think about filling our diet with organic food with contains a higher amount of antioxidants than non-

organic food.

Organic foods are (05) using methods that do not involve modern synthetic inputs such as

pesticides and chemical fertilizers, do not contain (06) modified organisms and are not processed

using irradiation, industrial solvents, or chemical food additives. Organic food production is a heavily

(07) industry. Currently, the European Union, the United States, Canada, Japan and many other

countries require (08) to obtain special certification in order to market food as organic within their

borders.

Although many studies have (09) that the nutritional value (10) in organic

and non-organic foods are the same, there have been some that proved otherwise. Crops that are grown through organic

farming techniques are not exposed to harsh pesticides to protect them from moulds and insects, hence the plants

depend on their innate defense mechanisms to survive. This mechanism requires the production of antioxidants which

is higher in plans that are grown organically.
