Chillingworth has transformed himself into a mortal man who does not have a human heart.

5.  Hester has changed as a person, i.e. from an arrogant woman to a humble woman serving the needy.  She is no longer the passionate woman that she used to be but rather she now tends to the poor and sick.  

6.  Chillingsworth is bent on taking a revenge on Dimmesdale because he committed adultery with his wife.  She pleads Chillingsworth not to take a revenge on Dimmesdale because she wants to protect Dimmesdale from Chillingsworth.  

She also realizes that her silence in not revealing her relationship with Dimmesdale has put Dimmesdale’s life in trouble.  

7.  Hester believes that the letter “A” on her chest will fall off in due time but again with divine intervention and no human as authority to remove it.

8.  Chillingsworth who is now a changed man who is encountered by Hester and Pearl near the beach collecting some medicine.  During her conversation with him, Hester realizes that he is none other than her husband and also discovers that he came to know about Hester’s lover and wants to take a revenge on Dimmesdale .

9.  As soon as Chillingsworth is aware of himself, he realizes that he has transformed into brute who is seeking revenge on his wife’s lover.   His body and his face are longer like that of human but rather completely disfigured similar to a devil.
