To Dominy's delight, he found the dark mouth, hooded eyes, and wispy whiskers of the patas monkey had a comically crotchety face similar to the Lorax. Even the "sawdusty sneeze" of the Lorax might have been in honor of the patas monkey's wheezy whoop.
Patas monkeys, it turns out, also rely on an African tree called the whistling thorn acacia. The tree's gum, thorns, flowers and seeds are believed to make up around 80 percent of the monkey's diet.
