Dialogue #1

My name is Ron. My mom has been really stressed out lately. She works a lot and comes home late. When she finally does come home from work, she always gets on to me for not having finished my chores and my homework already. I used to try to out more by doing the dishes or the laundry, but then she would criticize me for doing chores the wrong wat because I didn’t do them exactly the same way as she does. I’m tired of fighting with her all the time. I can’t ever seem to get it right, so I just don’t bother trying to help around the house anymore. It’s her fault that I stopped doing my chores.

My name is Laura, Thomas is a new boy at my school. He is so cute! I sit behind him in class and I practice writing my first name with his last name all the time. We’ve been talking on the phone every night, and he asked me to go to the football game with him this Friday. I’m so excited that I can’t even focus on anything else except for him! Sure, my friends are mad at me because I canceled my plans with them on Friday night. And my little brother is upset with me because I haven’t had time to help him with his soccer drills like I promised him. I just can’t focus on anything else except for Thomas, even when I’m not talking to him, I think about him all the time. Does this mean I’m in love?

My name is Ethan. Yesterday I was upset because I found out that I didn’t make the basketball team. I was telling my friend, Kelly, how upset I was, but she kept staring off into space during our conversation. When I asked for her opinion, all she could give me was one-word answers. She was slouched in her chair the whole time I talked. Now I’m annoyed with her because I don’t feel she was listening to me. Answer Choices Kelly made the team and is embarrassed. Kelly is not a good active listener. Kelly’s body language makes it seem that she didn’t care that her friend didn’t make the team. Answer Choice Feedback That can’t be. Kelly doesn’t play basketball. She’s not athletic. Kelly is not listening to me. At least she is acting like she’s not listening. Kelly’s body language seems to say that she really does not care about my feelings

Which excerpt from tinker v. des moines shows how precedent support an argument? a. "as we shall discuss, the wearing of armbands in the circumstances of this case was entirely divorced from actually or potentially disruptive conduct by those participating in it. it was closely akin to 'pure speech' which, we have repeatedly held, is entitled to comprehensive protection under the first amendment. cf. cox v. louisiana, 379 u. s. 536, 555 (1965); adderley v. florida, 385 u. s. 39 (1966)." b. "while the absence of obscene remarks or boisterous and loud disorder perhaps justifies the court's statement that the few armband students did not actually 'disrupt' the classwork, i think the record overwhelmingly shows that the armbands did exactly what the elected school officials and principals foresaw they would." c. "i, for one, am not fully persuaded that school pupils are wise enough, even with this court's expert from washington, to run the 23,390 public school systems [n4] in our 50 states." d. "under our constitution, free speech is not a right that is given only to be so circumscribed that it exists in principle, but not in fact. freedom of expression would not truly exist if the right could be exercised only in an area that a benevolent government has provided as a safe haven for crackpots."
