Haemon acts as a foil character to Creon because his views differ from his father's. Haemon is trying to change his father's mind about sentencing Antigone to death for disobeying his law that states that the "traitor" Polyneices is not to be given a proper burial. Haemon tells Creon that the townspeople of Thebes all disagree with his sentence and that he should not kill Antigone. Creon says that he is disappointed that his son is taking a woman's side, in this case Antigone is the woman, and Haemon tells his father that he will never speak to him again.

Creon's stubbornness and pride are are highlighted by his interactions with Haemon.
