Pulse broadening: Assume that the slab waveguide core index, ni, and the outer (cladding) index, n2, DO NOT depend on light frequency/wavelength. Qualitatively explain (i. e., words and/or illustrative equation are fine) how/why a short pulse of light traveling in a "single" spatial waveguide mode can broaden as it travels from one end of the waveguide to the other end. (Note, this case is due to intra-modal dispersion.)
