1. As we turned the corner in the aquarium, Kevin and I were suddenly face-to-face with a great white shark. Kevin let out a gruff sound that let me know he was impressed. Years later, he would tell me this was the moment he decided to dedicate his life to wildlife photography. Kevin did try that route, but he had little aptitude for photography and eventually became an engineer. He jokingly blamed me for the aquarium trip that sealed his fate as an artist. At the aquarium, however, that gruff noise was all that gave him away. Moments later he was back to being cool Kevin, quick with a joke but slow to share his feelings. Why does the author interrupt the narrative to reveal what happens in the future? 1. to provide greater insight into how impressed Kevin is by the shark 2. to explain why the characters don't get along after they grow up 3. to reveal the theme that things usually turn out for the best
