The Narrator describes Arnie’s family as one that “had never climbed a telephone pole to size up the future.” What does he mean by this?

Arnie's parents had good jobs in offices, they weren't poor, so they could afford everything Arnie wanted. On the other hand, José and his family were poor, and they had to work hard to survive. Therefore, Arnie's family did not have to beg anyone to help them, to give them jobs, etc. José did not like Arnie and he thought Arnie was spoiled and lazy.

Born Worker is a short story written by Gary Soto which describes the lives of José, a boy with a Mexican American background, who comes from a poor family and has to work all day to help his family, and his rich cousin Arnie, whose parents worked in the offices.

the author develops a cold, and scared tone. making the reader shudder with fear, and suddenly become cold. i'm guessing that he's writing a scary novel, or maybe about a chilly december night.
