At the beginning of the play,

Macbeth is a noble person loyal to his king. After Lady Macbeth's prophecy, he is eager to achieve his ambitious plans, so he kills the King. Here lies the conflict of good and evil in Macbeth because of which he becomes paranoid and starts killing people to ease his mind.

At the end of the play,

We are presented with the entirely different and totally corrupt Macbeth who dies because of his sins.

Macbeth is a character that goes through many changes throughout the play. In many of Shakespeare's play, he liked to present the main characters as tragic heroes. All of the tragic heroes have a tragic flaw that leads the protagonist from a good and wealthy life to his/her doom or destruction.

Macbeth's tragic flaw was his belief in a prophecy and paranoic state of mind.
