The character of Prince Escalus is first seen in Act I scene i where he ordered the two warring families to stop their fight. It wasn't the first time this duel had happened, and he warned them not to incite any violence or trouble in the future or he will pass stern judgement on both families. This scene shows that the prince is angry with the Capulets and Montaigue and reprimand them for always bringing trouble to the people. He also warns them of bringing further trouble in the future, or they will pay with their lives.
