baseball is rather surprisingly known as "america's favorite pastime." it is a rather boring sport played between two teams of nine players. as silliness would have it, the players use a wooden or metal bat to hit a ball around a diamond-shaped playing field. at each of the points of the diamond is a marker, called a base. home base is where the batter stands. players from the opposing team are positioned at the other bases: first, second, and third. a batter scores a run by hitting the ball and running around the bases before members of the other team can tag him with the ball. the batter must run counter-clockwise around all of the bases and back to home to get a point. this might sound exciting, but it's not.
