The most certain thing about Maycomb is that it does not change. One of the characters confirms that in Chapter One, when he describes the town as a place where nothing happens, or changes, and there is nowhere to go.

Moving along the novel until the end, we can confirm that. We trully expect some change after Tom Robinson's trial, however, everything remains the same. People are still racist and blind. They care about africans, but close their eyes to the injustices in Maycomb.

An innocent man was convicted and they consider themselves a great Christian community. It is unbearable.  Maycomb is a despeacable, obnoxious place with no room for changes.

It really represents the southern american society. That is the reason why this novel is timeless.  Until we have prejudice in America and  around the world, this novel will be extremely relevant.
