Was the russian revolution a failure?

Russian Revolution includes a series of revolutions in Russia in 1917. The revolution created Russian SFSR and dismantled the Tsarist autocracy. During the first revolution in February, the emperor was forced to abdicate and old regime was replaced by a provisional government. During the second revolution in October, the provisional government was replaced by Communist government.

The February revolution focused on Saint Petersburg. The members of the Imperial parliament assumed the control over the country and formed the Russian Provisional Government. The last Emperor of Russia was abducted by the army. The soviet permitted the provisional government to rule in the starting, but insisted to influence the government and control various militias. The February revolution main aim was in the context of heavy military setbacks during the first world war (1914–18), which left much of the Russian army in a state of mutiny.

Then a period of dual power came, Provisional Government held state power and Socialist’s national network of Soviets had the allegiance of the lower classes. When provisional government chooses to fight the war with Germany, at the same time, Communist campaigned for stopping the conflict.

In the October Revolution the communist and Soviets overthrew the provisional government. The Bolsheviks (communist) took the control over ministry and also took control of the countryside. They signed a treaty of Brest Litovsk with Germany to end Russia’s participation in the First World War in March 1918.

Civil war was erupted between Bolshevik and anti Bolshevik and continued for several years, ultimately Bolshevik won. Finally, the revolution led to the creation of Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.
