Automatic transmissions and manual transmissions achive the same goal: they use power to turn the wheels or a car. however, there are some differences between the two. an automatic transmission makes a car eassy to drive; but stick shift drivers belive that automatics aren't quite as fun. there are other differences as well. a car with a manual transmission usually uses less fuel. this is because the driver has greater control over the car; it is the driver, not the car who is "in the driver's seat". a manual transmission also has more power and can accelerate faster. this is why race cars have manual transmissions.
