Select the correct answer.
which claim is supported by the evidence that a competition can have only one winner?
the importance of competition
a students face disappointment if they lose while competing.
b. competitions boost confidence in all participating students.
c. schools should encourage students to try new things.
• d. hardworking people do not achieve success easily
a competition is a great way to engage students to be more
interested in school activities because it adds a "fun" element to the
learning process. competitions are also known to motivate some
students. but are competitions always healthy? is being part of
competitions the only way to prove capability? students' families should
not force students to participate in competitions
the idea of winning a competition may be so demanding that a
student may concentrate all of his or her efforts on preparing for the
competition over other things. this may create an imbalance in the
student's life. students might also neglect their studies because they
are intent at being successful in only one thing. this fear of losing may
also make students overwork, which can have a negative effect.
moreover, it is obvious that any competition will have only one
winner, and the others have to brace themselves for disappointment.
sometimes, even though a person may perform well, he or she may
lose a competition to someone who performs slightly better. this
disappointment can affect the confidence of the competitor, and
therefore, his or her performance.
thus, competitions can have a negative impact on students.

Read the point that is being made and the illustration that follows it. point: gilgamesh is a courageous leader. illustration: enkidu is frightened of humbaba and wants to turn back, but he tells gilgamesh, "you go into the dreadful forest, you kill humbaba and win the fame.” which explanation best connects this illustration to the point being made? enkidu also tells gilgamesh that he “will return now to great-walled uruk” and that all men will know he has been a coward. although enkidu fears for his own life, he is thoughtless and does not necessarily fear for the lives of others. enkidu is deeply fearful of humbaba, and he strongly believes that gilgamesh has the courage and ability to defeat humbaba alone. this proves that enkidu does not believe that anyone can defeat humbaba, even if he thinks gilgamesh should at least try.
