dear editor,

re: bullying in schools is getting out of hand (may 21).

your article about violence at the local high school only confirms what i have suspected for some time; young people today have no respect for authority and its time to do something about it.

just last week i was driving down the road when a young man cut in front of me, made rude gesture as though i had done something wrong, and then tore off down the road, almost hitting a young girl on a bicycle. my wife and i were shocked by this careless and rude display. people shouldn' t be able to get their driver' s license until they are 21. if they aren' t willing to follow the rules or mature enough to drive, then they shouldn' t be allowed to.

my wife won' t even go to the mall alone anymore because of the teenagers who hang out there. if they aren' t shopping, why are they there? they should get jobs or be made to go into the military for a few years to teach some discipline and respect.

something needs to be done.

sincerely,

i. m.crusty

Read this excerpt from wheels of change by sue macy. that said, it's hard to grasp the full extent of the bicycle's impact on americans in the late 19th century—particularly female americans. imagine a population imprisoned by their very clothing; the stiff corsets, heavy skirts, and voluminous petticoats that made it difficult to take a deep breath, let alone exercise. add to that the laws and social conventions that cemented a man's place as head of the household and holder of the purse strings. how suffocated women must have felt. and how liberated they must have been as they pedaled their wheels toward new horizons. what is the central idea of the excerpt

Hurry i am on the semester test which theme is evident in this excerpt from robert frost's "mending wall"? but at spring mending-time we find them there. i let my neighbor know beyond the hill; and on a day we meet to walk the line and set the wall between us once again. we keep the wall between us as we go. to each the boulders that have fallen to each. and some are loaves and some so nearly balls we have to use a spell to make them balance: "stay where you are until our backs are turned! " we wear our fingers rough with handling them. oh, just another kind of out-door game, one on a side. it comes to little more: there where it is we do not need the wall: he is all pine and i am apple orchard. my apple trees will never get across and eat the cones under his pines, i tell him. he only says, “good fences make good neighbors." spring is the mischief in me, and i wonder if i could put a notion in his head: "why do they make good neighbors? isn't it where there are cows? but here there are no cows. before i built a wall i'd ask to know what i was walling in or walling out, and to whom i was like to give offence. . " a. the human desire for material gain b. the influence of financial constraints c. the positive effects of friendship d. the uncertain nature of human relations e. the futility of human yearning
